Known throughout California and the U.S. for her work as a Business Advisor in the sale and acquisition of privately-held companies, Margot Murphy is the Principal Broker of Sage Advisory Group, a Southern-California based Business Brokerage and M & A Advisory firm that provides client advisory, value analysis, and transactional services for privately-held companies in the U.S.
An entrepreneur by nature, and journalist by trade, Margot brings a varied and extensive background to her firm, and a fresh, innovative approach to Business Brokerage. Prior to starting Sage Advisory Group, Margot owned and operated a family-run construction company that specializes in government contracting and private sector work, including the construction of a 1,000 key hotel.
Her passion for helping business owners get acquired surfaced early in life, when her first company was acquired by a local competitor, based on a deal she structured. Since that time, many business owners have benefitted from her marketing savvy and business acumen. From client advisory and transaction facilitation, to value optimizing consulting, exit strategy planning, and marketing, she has helped many business owners in a wide range of industries, including Manufacturing, Distribution, and Construction, as well as Equipment Leasing, Warehousing, Trucking and Transportation, Professional Services, Property Management, Property Maintenance and Janitorial companies.
As a top-performing, high-energy Business Advisor, Margot is most known for her ability to consistently attract the right acquiring parties to an opportunity. This is largely attributed to her marketing-centric approach, encompassing her proprietary database, which drives her ability to create high demand for her sellers, and also her ability to capture the essence of a business, understand what will pique a prospective buyer’s interest, communicate it and then package it and effectively promote it to produce a top-dollar sale. This has been instrumental in her clients' success, and has allowed Margot to shine in this arena, elevating potential of a successful strategic match; ensuring win-win outcomes for both seller and acquirer.
Over the years, Margot has developed deep connections with investment bankers, private equity firms, retired CEOs and family offices, as well as access to an entire market of individual buyers. She offers her seller clients a consultative, unique approach to the analysis, packaging, marketing and transfer of ownership of their $2MM to $15MM revenue business.
Margot holds a California Real Estate Broker’s license and a degree in Journalism and Advertising from Northern Arizona University. Throughout her career, she has enjoyed serving in several great organizations and companies --- including the Orange County Chapter of the California Association of Business Brokers (CABB), where she served as Chairperson and The National Association of Women Business Owners where she served on the Board of Directors, as well as being named Director of Business Brokerage for one of the largest Commercial Real Estate franchise companies and their network of 60+ locations.
